Tai chi is a form of qigong, and evolved as a physical activity for integrating mind, body and spirit to function in harmony with the external world. As a non-impact exercise, it strengthens the body with minimum stress to the joints. Rather than cultivating brute force, which inevitably becomes depleted, t’ai chi (which means Supreme Ultimate”) cultivates the Middle Way, a peaceful path. Tai chi integrates body mechanics training with qi gong energy cultivation. Breath awareness, awareness of hands, practicing sensing qi, and Wu ji are excellent qigong exercises to boost your energy or calm you down.
Original Tai Chi Fundamentals® Program is a simplified system that includes functional analysis. It is appropriate for most ages and conditions and can be applied as therapy and group exercise. It includes 3 elements, basic moves, tai chi fundamentals short form, and mind/body skills training. The basic moves and short form are taught in 3 parts, progressing from simple to more complex. It is performed standing without support, though support can be used if needed.
Tai Chi Fundamentals® Programs represent successful collaboration between medical and fitness professionals. Meta-analyses and Systematic Reviews Research suggests that tai chi practice can improve balance and postural control, strength, flexibility, cardiovascular and respiratory health, emotional health and cognitive function; improve sleep and immune heath; reduce risk of falls and help maintain bone mineral density in postmenopausal women. Research evolves on an ongoing basis. Published data includes: https://doi.org/10.1093/geront/gnz006
This session will be tailored to the participants to provide a few basic moves progressing from simple moves for practicing almost anytime during the day, even if just for a few minutes.
