Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the gold standard of using meditation in medical settings and has over forty years of aggregate data showing positive effects for patients with dozens of conditions from chronic pain to anxiety. It was founded at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital as a secular application of ancient Buddhist practices offering mental, emotional, physical and social well-being.
In this introductory program, Brown University qualified teacher Bonnie Weiss will offer sample meditation practices for health in addition to discussing stress response and resilience, mindfulness and neuroplasticity, and the history, science, and benefits of MBSR.
