Why are dreams so difficult to understand? How could our lives be different if we could read our dreams?

This workshop will begin with basic dream interpretation methods before asking: What does it mean when cities, landscapes, familiar neighborhoods, and even Earth appear in our dreams? Could our dream life lay the foundation for a new kind of deep imaginal connection to nature, place, and world?
Most approaches assume dream symbols to be aspects of the dreamer or expressions of a personal or collective level of the psyche. This workshop will add another lens by offering examples of how dreams can move our focus from inside to outside by personifying unseen qualities of the places where we live, drawing parallels between environmental and internal events, alerting us to ecologically troubled landscapes, and reconnecting the naturally situated human psyche with the living presence of nature, place, and Earth.
We will also entertain examples of how dream people we sometimes interpret as aspects of the human psyche can actually represent specific locales, earthly forces to attend, and movements rising in collective consciousness.
What to Expect:
Participants who attend this presentation will be able to:
1. Experiment with interpreting dreams in order to access hidden sides of oneself.
2. Specify three ways dreams reconnect us to our surroundings.
3.Practice three techniques for interpreting synchronicities.
4. Explain why tracing dream symbols to collective events can be healing.

"Although some of my training and background came out of the Human Potential Movement, including reflective techniques, somatics, and dream studies, my work pushes beyond the individualistic paradigm. In workshops, trainings, presentations, and my Assembling Terrania Cycle of near-future fiction, I ask: How can we use all this great stuff to change culture? To dream into being the kinds of humane, just, inclusive, and Earth-honoring community we so truly desire? How can we light our lamps?" -Craig

Commonly Asked Questions
Do I need to have a dream to share or analyze to participate? While having a recent dream can enhance your experience during the "Practical Dreamwork" portion of the session, the workshop is designed to teach you a new way of looking at dreams. Dr. Chalquist will provide examples and techniques that you can apply to any future dreams or even past ones you still remember.
I usually forget my dreams. Will I still get value from this workshop? Absolutely. Many people find that once they understand the "imaginal connection" between their inner lives and the world around them, their dreams become more vivid and easier to recall. We will discuss how to invite these connections and what to do if you aren't currently remembering your dreams.
How is "Terrapsychology" different from traditional dream analysis? Traditional dream analysis often focuses purely on the "internal"—what a dream says about your personal psyche or past. Terrapsychology (the study of how our souls and the world are intertwined) looks "outside" as well. It explores how your dreams might be personifying the spirit of the place where you live, environmental changes, or collective movements in the world.
Will this session be recorded if I can’t make it live? Yes. OMA typically records its virtual lectures and workshops. All registered attendees will receive a link to the recording after the event, allowing you to review the techniques and insights at your own pace.
